Old San Juan is filled with charming cobblestone street, pastel homes, beautiful architecture, the BEST empanadas you will ever have in your life, fortresses, beaches, and so much more.
Our hostel was sweet, quaint and charming. No elevators or AC, but incredible hosts with tireless patience for our touristy questions that I’m sure they must be sick of. The same welcoming energy was everywhere.
People were excited about their home and happy to share. Wonder if that is because the weather is usually perfect. People don’t have that kind of patience in other places. For me, Puerto Rico struck a great balance. How can you be stressed when you’re drinking from a coconut?
Cats and iguanas are everywhere. Same with chickens, all over the beaches in San Juan.
Even though we did not use AirBnb, you can use the app to look for experiences. Same with Hostel world, which is how we found outdoor salsa lessons outside of San Juan. A MUST while in Puerto Rico.
Rainforest hike and waterfall slides. Ridiculously beautiful. I was glad for a tour guide here. It gave me the confidence to jump off of rocks into the cool inviting pools. Totally ruined a pair of white tennis shoes, but well worth it.
My younger brother gifted me a water-proof fanny pack for hristmas in anticipation of this trip and I got so much use of it on this leg of the trip.
Do not skip this. While my pictures are not the cutest, it's worth mentioning. We went after it rained, on a new moon. The sky was dark, and the rainforest fed bacteria were full of the minerals that made their little bodies shine so brilliantly.
You could see the tarpin light up in the water as they swam through the shallow canals.
I’ve always loved kayaking, but this solidified the form of transport for me as a favorite.
Wow. This was my first time doing this and I cannot wait to do it again. Puerto Rico’s coastline is so beautiful. The trip out towards the reefs was itself worth the money.
Bring your motion sickness meds. I beg of you. I think I saved several lives.
In short, A week was not nearly enough time to explore such a vibrant, ancient, lush, and lively corner of the earth. I cannot wait to return, and this time, not even a global pandemic will come between me and a Bacardi factory tour.
